Women’s National Para Hockey Team Opens 2026 Season with Training Camp in Toronto
February 12, 2026
Toronto, ON – Women’s Para Hockey of Canada (WPHC) is proud to announce the first training camp of the 2026 season for Canada’s Women’s National Para Hockey Team, taking place February 12–16, 2026, in Toronto, Ontario at the NFP Athletic Centre: A Canlan Sports Community.
The five-day camp will bring together many of the nation’s top para hockey athletes as they begin preparations for the upcoming competitive season. The training camp marks an important step in the team’s continued development, focusing on high-performance standards, team systems, and strengthening on- and off-ice cohesion.
The roster for the February training camp was selected by head coach Tara Chisholm and assistant coaches Derek Whitson and Tim Whitson and is the first of a series of training camps and regional identification camps that will be used to select the roster for the Women’s Para Ice Hockey 2026 World Championships (date, location TBD).
This week’s camp includes twelve athletes that represented Canada at the inaugural Women’s World Para Ice Hockey Championships in Slovakia in 2025 - Assinck, Charron-Pilotte, Clements, Darnley, Frittenburg, Gregory, Mah, Manning, Spong, Tousignant, Vergie and White. The training camp roster is rounded out by three youth athletes – Hailey Halik, Hailey King, Layla Nasr and goaltender Justyne Bennett.
“This camp sets the tone for our season,” said Tara Chisholm. “We’re bringing together a highly skilled and dedicated group of athletes who are committed to raising the standard of women’s para hockey in Canada. Our focus will be on refining systems, building chemistry, and continuing to grow as a national program.”
Throughout the camp, athletes will participate in on-ice practices, tactical meetings, team-building activities and three exhibition games against an Ontario open team designed to support both individual performance and collective success.
Women’s Para Hockey of Canada continues to lead the advancement of opportunities for women in para ice hockey, providing a national platform for elite development and international competition.
